A true English classic now so rarely available. This
is one of the copy models after Maggini with double purfilling and
Brecian style sound holes. A wonderful straight medium grain on
the table seems to stand out and exude strength.
A flattish table arch means plenty of power in the
sound as does the incredible depth of the ribs at 24cm (just under
9.5 inches including the plates). The varnish of a rich orange-brown
colour over a yellow ground. This instrument is sheer poetry to
look at and a sheer delight to play. A real gem.
Please refer to the Strad Feb 97 article on Fendt
by Thomas Martin and Martin Lawrence for pictures of an identical
instrument.
