This is one of those incredibly handsome violin outlined instruments with a flat back that displays a "secondary" button carved immediately below the neck block button. Constructed throughout with timber of quality and with carving that shows good attention to detail this is indeed an excellent example of this particular type of Lamy instrument.

Only a few years ago these sturdy instruments were plenty available. How times have changed. The excellent quality, first class looks and great sound means that they are eagerly snapped up by top jazz players, usually even quicker that most people can say Jerome Thibouville-Lamy. In fact these instruments, particularly over the course of the last five years have consistently proved to be prudent financial investments for their owners.

Internally this instrument bears a repairers label that reads 'Repaired by J. Carter Walker 1963'. Externally on the bass side top rib can be seen two partly obliterated names and the date 8-8-10 that have been carved into the wood, presumably by former owners. A somewhat crude but effective method of firmly establishing ownership. Imagine doing the same thing on a violin!

Typically one finds these "Lamy" instruments with a rich plum-red colour of varnish but in this example there is a very attractive rich orange-red colouration that has been applied over a "ground" of yellow. The effect is visually stunning.

As usual absolutely everything necessary has been done on this instrument to put it into top playing order. The list of benefit is includes the gluing and studding of all cracks to the table and ribs, regraduation of the table, fitment of a new bass bar, fitment of a soundpost patch, halfedging and edging work, readjustment of the neck-angle, re-shaping of the neck, fitment of a new fingerboard, bridge and soundpost, cleaning of the varnish followed by the touching in of the varnish etc.

Put simply this is a fully secure instrument with a fully secure sound. The added advantage of a string length of a mere 105cm makes this instrument almost impossible to fault.

Width at the upper bout 20.8in (52.9cm)
Width at the centre bout 15in (38.0cm)
Width at the lower bout 26.7in (67.8cm)
LOB 44.2in (112.3cm) St length 41.3in (105.0cm)
