| An unbranded French silver mounted
bow circa 1920 emanating from a member of the Mirecourt based Bazin
family or their workshops.
Coming in at 143 grams with only a whalebone and tinsel-thread
lapping, this is a true heavy weight in terms of bass bows. In this
bow the weight is a true asset. There is a feeling of great balance,
so really all you have to do is just let the weight of the stick
do all of the work.
You'll be absolutely astounded by how much more volume
and quality of sound this bow will produce. Previously owned by
a London professional, this bow will do all of the off-string stuff
with ease.
For smashing out Brahms and Bruckner symphonies it's
really the ultimate. Despite a strip of ebony (A "cheval"
as it is called is a method of repair for damage to the wood below
the bottom slide.) fitted to the top of the frog in appearance there
is little to suggest that there is anything different from when
it was new. If you are considering the profession, Tony Houska,
director of The Contrabass Shoppe advises, "If you want to
be a professional do yourself a favour and get some proper gear
that will do the job".
Length of Stick : 630 mm
