That's right - Reid Hudson bows first
started appearing in the UK during the early 1980's. They really
were the best things ever for upwardly progressing students and
young professionals. These days Hudson bows are being used in many
of the worlds finest symphony orchestras - for they are bows
that both work well and are visually appealing.
To those of you that have seen bows by Hudson before
- this exceptionally fine bow is instantly recognisable as being
from his hand. In fact we could almost say that this bow is "Classic"
Hudson - for it is a model that has become synonymous with his name.
Inspired by the great French makers - Hudson has evolved and
refined a half round / half elliptical stick developed from the
later bass bows of Joseph Arthur Vigneron [1851-1905] - with a frog
of slightly wider proportions similar to those produced by Eugene
Sartory [1871-1946]. The result is a quite masculine looking bow,
that looks and feels absolutely right for the purposes for which
it was intended - and that's playing all the great symphonies of
Brahms, Bruckner, Mahler and Beethoven. Rather like that phrase
"A Ferrari is a real drivers car" - "This Hudson bow is a
real players bow".
Reid Hudson has obviously spent a lot of time selecting
a stock of fine pernambuco wood for his making purposes and in thinking
about the style, weight and balance of the bows he produces. This
has resulted in him gaining such an enviable reputation. Congratulations
Reid Hudson. Here at The Contrabass Shoppe we thoughrouly recommend
your bows.
