This
classy looking violin-shaped instrument was made as a four stringed
instrument in Markneukirchen, Germany around the turn of the twentieth
century. Below the back button can be seen the makers name brand
- "Moritz Otto, Markneukirchen". Internally there is a repair
label that is visible through the bass side F-hole - "Repaired
by Ronald Prentice, London. November 1969". The instrument has a
swell back and outside linings and is coated in a light brown varnish
of quality.
The stats for the upper bouts and the width of the
shoulders at the neck (a mere 17.5cm) reveal that the model of this
instrument is one of gloriously slim proportions. Simply put this
means that playing around the critical shoulder area and in the
very upper registers of this instrument is very, very easy.
A nice "slim-feel" neck is a bonus too.
This instrument has been used for many years by a
professional orchestral musician in England. The instrument produces
a good health warm sound and the feedback that the player receives
is very positive in every way.
It really doesn't matter what sort of playing
you are doing - be it orchestral, chamber, solo work or jazz - this
instrument will suit you. It really is a "players" instrument.
If you've just left college and are doing the audition rounds
then this is the sort of instrument that will propel you into a
professional position. Investment prospects for this quality of
instrument look good too.
