We offer two fantastic styles of cover:
What advantages does the Classic Cover have? Why
do the pro's like it?
We'd describe
this cover as being of medium weight. Fully-lined with 15mm of velvet-covered
foam - it provides great protection from bumps and knocks.
Designed
and made here in the UK - the manufactures have used a supple, shower-proof
material that is impeccably stitched at all the seams.
Zips: Putting the
cover on and taking it off again is incredibly quick and easy -
because the cover is fitted with two heavy-duty two-way zips that
both start from the endpin hole. A full-length zip goes up the bass
side of the instrument - to the scroll top. A quarter-length zip
extends up the treble side of the instrument up to the top of the
lower bout. When you're late for rehearsal - as we all are
on occasion -these covers are a real lifesaver.
Because these covers are so well made their life expectancy is extremely
long. We've known pro's to purchase one of these cases and use it
right throughout their career.
All pockets
are opened and closed by heavy-duty zips. In the front there is
a large accessory pocket. In the lower-back there is a full width
music pocket.
There
are two "pairs" of "material-type" handles attached
to the front and rear side seams of the cover by strong stitching.
For ease of carrying they are located perfectly in the middle of
the centre-bouts.
There
is a fully adjustable carrying strap made from strong lightweight
webbing. The shoulder piece is amply padded. The colour is black.
To complete the package there is a 78cm long velvet bow slip to
protect your favourite French or German bow.
A good
looking, well made medium-weight cover in two colours and four sizes
that will give just the right amount of protection. Definitely a
cover of distinction. We like the fact that it is made to last and
last and last.
Black
or Maroon.
Now available
in four sizes - 3/4, 7/8, 4/4 and with 5/4 size available to order
- The Classic Cover is a generous cover in every respect. Please
note that the newly introduced 7/8 size replaces what was the old
4/4 size.
We
reckon that the easiest way to work out what size cover is perfect
for your instrument is to measure the Length of its Back (LOB).
To find out what this figure is - measure in centimetres from the
base of the back button to the lowest extremity (mid-point of the
bottom edge) of the back.
We'd consider that a "perfect" fit
would be one that did not cause the stretching of the material or
stress placement on the seams or zips.
Perfect
for French "Lamy" or "Jacquet" type instruments
and smallish Germanic instruments of violin or viol outline, with
either flat or swell back. Please note that the 3/4 size cover is
not suitable for instruments with a lower-rib depth (including the
plates) greater than 22cm or with an upper-bout (across table) width
greater than 53cm (e.g. Hawkes or large-shouldered Lamy or German
instruments).
The cover is comfortably-loose on instruments with a LOB
of 108cm - 111cm
The cover will be a perfect fit on instruments with a LOB
of 111cm - 113cm
For instruments with a rib depth (including plates) of 22cm
the cover will only be a perfect-fit up to 111cm.
Perfect
for all Classic English instruments with a rib-depth of up to 22cm
and full width upper (up to 53cm) and lower bouts (up to 70cm).
The 7/8 size is a comfortably-loose fit for Hawkes Professor, Concert
and Panormo instruments with a LOB between 112cm -113cm. Large Italian,
French-Lamy and German instruments that are violin or viol shaped,
flat or swell backed - even those equipped with a mechanical or
"finger" extension - fit in easily too
The cover is comfortably-loose on flat-backed instruments
with a LOB of 112cm - 115cm
The cover will be a perfect fit on flat-backed instruments
with a LOB of 115cm - 118cm.
The cover will be a perfect fit on swell-backed instruments with
a LOB of 113cm - 115cm
Instruments
that require this cover will have at least one depth or width measurement
that is above the average size for a Classic English instrument.
The average sizes are:
Lower rib depth: 22cm
Width across upper bout: 53cm
Width across lower bout: 70cm
Please note that the following LOB measurements given
for the 4/4 size are the same as those for the 7/8 size.
How the cover fits will depend on the width and depth
stats specific to your instrument.
The cover is comfortably-loose on flat-backed instruments
with a LOB of 112cm - 115cm
The cover will be a perfect fit on flat-backed instruments
with a LOB of 115cm - 118cm
The cover will be a perfect fit on swell-backed instruments with
a LOB of 113cm - 115cm
The
style of this cover is really upbeat and modern. There's more than
enough pockets for one's bits and bobs, there's plenty of good strong
handles for lifting into cars and then there's the shower-proof
satin-finish fabric which has a real quality space-age feel and
look to it. Altogether -simply fantastic styling.
This
medium weight cover is exceedingly well padded with 20mm of foam
that is enclosed on the inside by a fine exterior-matching lining
fabric. This is protection and luxury indeed.
Heavy-duty
handles made from woven industrial-webbing are absolutely everywhere
on this cover. On the front - from scroll to saddle - there are
no less than five, on the back there's one positioned opposite the
back button, while on each side there is one positioned opposite
the centre-bouts and another in the upper neck position. So in total
that makes 10. Phew!
As if 10 handles weren't quite enough to help carry one's pride
and joy about - the manufactures of this cover have included a "half-length"
heavy-duty webbing shoulder strap which attaches to chrome rings
that are positioned slightly above the central side handles.
On the bass side front of the cover there is a pouch for your bow
case. Did you say bow case? Yes that's right. At last you no-longer
have to carry your bow case around separately. Simply tuck it into
the pouch.
On the front there are three. One appears to be only useful (it's
long and thin) for carrying a spare end-pin but the two other pouches
positioned on each of the treble side upper and lower bouts are
capable of swallowing huge amounts of bass player necessities.
The upper pocket measures approximately 20cm
x 20cm x 6cm. The lower pocket measures approximately 23cm x 23cm
x 7cm. With these stats - I worked it out that you could easily
carry 7 cans of Guinness or Budweiser around with you. Not that
you'd want to of course - but at least you get the idea.
Positioned on the lower back there is a huge pocket in which to
place your music. Measures 42cm x 42cm.
Two
heavy duty two-way zips that both start from the endpin hole make
putting this cover on and taking it off again incredibly easy. On
the bass side of the instrument a full-length zip goes all the way
up to the scroll top. On the treble side of the instrument a quarter-length
zip extends up to the top of the lower bout.
Ever experienced zips running open on your case when you carry it
about? Thought so. Isn't it annoying? Here the manufacturers have
added a simple but effective solution to the problem of zip-creep.
On either side of the endpin unit they've sewn in strips of Velcro
that can be stretched across the zip-line. Problem solved.
A cleverly made case in a modern fabric manufactured with great
attention to detail. Strong fabric, seams, zips and handles give
this cover a good deal of rigidity. As for the price - it's definitely
far too cheap.
